A strange thing happened last November at Cox: previously clean-shaven men began sporting a “mo,” or moustache. The phenomenon wasn’t a fashion trend, but rather an outpouring of support for Movember. The Movember Foundation is a global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. The annual Movember campaign challenges men to grow a “mo” to raise awareness for this important topic.
Jamie Kennedy, Cox Enterprises board member and Jim Kennedy’s son, initiated the company’s involvement and served as Cox’s primary Mo Bro. Our month-long observance in 2014 was particularly meaningful given Chairman Jim Kennedy’s prostate cancer diagnosis. Thankful for his good prognosis, Cox employees enthusiastically wore Movember bracelets emblazoned with a handlebar moustache. The result could only be described as, well, mo-mentous. Joined by our vendors and partners, we raised more than $885,000, which was matched dollar-for-dollar by the James M. Cox Foundation. The resulting nearly $1.8 million donation to the Movember Foundation made us their top global network donor and the largest contributor ever.
