In 2015, Cox Enterprises announced a partnership with Techstars, an internationally recognized accelerator that boosts entrepreneurs’ early-stage business and product development efforts through focused education, mentorship and funding.
Alex Taylor, president and chief executive officer, wanted to support entrepreneurs and encourage innovative ideas in Atlanta’s emerging start-up ecosystem. The city, with its educated, diverse and growing population, has the potential to be a major hub for tech innovation but lacked a global accelerator program.
One year later, Techstars Atlanta welcomed its first class of 10 companies from a global pool of applicants. For 90 days, the founders worked in a creative space in the heart of midtown Atlanta where they received expert counsel and support from a network of more than 100 local mentors, including dozens of Cox employees. The program concluded with a Demo Day presentation during which the founders pitched their companies to Cox executives and a crowd of more than 800 at Atlanta’s famed Tabernacle. The next class begins in August 2017. Through this partnership, Cox will catalyze further connections, innovation and economic growth in Atlanta.

Our story as a company began nearly 120 years ago, and new chapters are still being written as we continue to evolve and grow our businesses and transform our products and services. To share that story in a new and compelling way, in 2016 we opened a state-of-the-art Discovery Center in the lobby of the Central Park building of our Atlanta Campus.
The Center’s high-tech exhibits are designed to capture the full spectrum of our company’s story – past, present and future. Historical displays trace our origins back to Governor Cox’s purchase of the Dayton Evening News in 1898 and continue through our expansion and diversification in the decades that followed. The Center offers insider details and news about Cox businesses today, and includes interactive features that invite employees to share their voices and experiences with those of other Cox employees. The Center’s features and content can also be accessed by employees online. So now, all 60,000 of our team members – across the country and across the world – can deepen their understanding of Cox operations, heritage, values and plans for continued progress.
